Ryan Dyer - President
Head Baseball Coach Saguaro High School
Coach Dyer has been the Head Baseball Coach at Saguaro High School for the past 6 years. He has been voted Region coach of the year and Arizona Coach of the year during his tenure at Saguaro.He is very active in youth baseball and has been an integral part in countless players moving on to play beyond high school. He looks forward to making USA Select Baseball a premiere organization that finds the best players and coaches from across the country.

Don Mitchell - USA Select Director of Operations

As Director of Baseball Operations, Don Mitchell brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Baseball Division as a player, talent evaluator and agent. He enjoyed an outstanding college baseball career and was named to the All-Gulf South Conference team as a third baseman in 1980-81, at University of Tennessee at Martin . He signed with the Cincinnati Reds in September of 1981, and played three years in the Reds’ minor league system. After scouting assignments in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Atlanta, Don joined the expansion Arizona Diamondbacks’ organization in the summer of 1995, as their Scouting Director. Don was responsible for evaluating talent, negotiating contracts and dealing with agents as well as general mangers. He has been directly involved with over 500 player contracts. During his four year tenure in Arizona, 36 of the players he scouted have been named on Major League rosters. In 1999, Don left the Diamondbacks to start GAAMES, a representation firm for baseball players. During his tenure at GAAMES, Don built numerous relationships and an outstanding client roster. Don graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a degree in Civil Engineering.

Joe Muecke - Saguaro High School
USA Select Instructor
Coach Joe Muecke is a 6th year Varsity Assistant Head Coach at Saguaro High School. He is very active in coaching Arizona youth baseball. Coaching age ranges from 10 -18 at the highest level. Joe has taken both 12 and 14 & Under teams to Honolulu, Hawaii for Best of the West's Tournaments. He has won twice at Winter Nationals, at the 14 and 15 & Under age brackets. Most memorable accomplishment is taking his brother's 14 & under team to Jamestown, New York, after winning regional, to represent the Pacific Southwest, for the Babe Ruth World Series in 2005. Joe graduated in 2007 with Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education, from Northern Arizona University. He continues to work and travel with competitive youth teams for going on 8 years.

 

Jerry Thaut - USA Select Instructor
Jerry Thaut comes to USA Select from the State of Washington where as a high school coach he accumulated over a 70% winning percentage.  He was twice named Conference Coach of the Year and North Central Washington State Coach of the Year.  His high school team won the Big School State Championship in 1981 and Jerry was recently inducted into the Moses Lake High School Hall of Fame for his athletic and coaching achievements. Jerry has also had outstanding success in summer baseball appearing in 3 Babe Ruth Baseball World Series, winning 2 National Championships and one 4th Place finish.  He has coached in two AAU World Series placing 3rd and 5th place, as well as winning a Cal Ripkin U10 State Championship.  It is to Jerry's credit 14 of his players have signed professional contracts. In 1998 Jerry was selected as the Head Coach for the Babe Ruth Baseball USA National team.  He has also been an Associate Scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Jerry has an extensive background in coaching baseball at all age levels. 

Alex Cherney - Head Coach Scottsdale Community College

After five seasons as the top Assistant Coach under Ed Yeager, Coach Cherney was named Scottsdale's head coach when Coach Yeager announced his retirement in June 2005. Coach Cherney came to the SCC baseball program after spending three years as an assistant at South Mountain Community College. Coach Cherney played collegiately at Beloit College, lettering four times and making the All-Conference team on three occasions. He graduated from Beloit in 1997 with his Bachelors degree in history, and graduated from Arizona State University with a Master's degree in physical education. Born in Sacramento, California, Coach Cherney was raised in Phoenix, and currently resides in Scottsdale

Anthony Gilich - Assistant Baseball Coach Central Arizona College

Anthony Gilich begins his first season as assistant coach with Central Arizona Baseball.  Coach Gilich is in charge of working with infielders and hitters and will assist Coach Wente in the recruiting process. Gilich coached the past four seasons at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma , Washington where he was the Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.  Gilich was responsible for managing the third base box and coaching the Logger infielders.  In 2004, UPS led the Northwest Conference in stolen bases and percentage swiping 90-115 bags.  In addition, the Loggers have had a higher fielding percentage and fewer errors in every season since his arrival in 2003.  Also, 5 infielders were named All-Northwest Conference during his tenure.  Prior to his arrival, Gilich coached at Ellensburg High School in 2002, leading the JV Bulldogs to a 14-6 record and assisting the varsity to their first playoff win in school history.  Gilich has also been the Head Coach of the highly recognized Triple Play Hornets for the past four summers.  In 2007, he guided the Hornets to a 47-16 record as well as winning their second consecutive USABF World Series Championship in San Diego , California .  During his tenure with Triple Play, every player has been placed at the college level including current Vaqueros Cade Thompson, Joe Anson and Tim Steggall. Gilich had an outstanding prep career at Gig Harbor High School where he earned 1st team All-State honors as a shortstop and also won a state championship in 1997.  Gilich still holds the school record for most saves in a season with 5, and most career saves with 12.  Collegiately, he finished his playing career at Santa Barbara City College .In 2003, Gilich graduated Cum Laude from Central Washington University with a degree in Speech Communication and a minor in Sociology.

Don was a first round draft pick for the Oakland A's in 1987. Don enjoyed over 10 years of professional baseball.
Paul Berringhaus - Occidental University
USA Select Instructor
Coach B enters his 1st season as Pitching Coach at Occidental after 3 season's as Brophy Prep's Pitching Coach. Brophy was ranked as the #1 team in the nation in 2007 after winning the 2006 Az State-Shampionship.Paul played collegiately at Occidental College.

 

Troy Gerlach - Paradise Valley Community College

Coach Gerlach begins his 1st season with Paradise Valley Community College after spending the past 5 seasons with The Arcadia Titans, serving as the Associate Head Varsity Coach. Troy also headed up the fall and winter baseball programs and coordinated the 100 inning game fund raiser. Before coming to the Titans he played and coached baseball at Northwest Missouri State University where he served as recruiting coordinator and coach. Coach Gerlach also coaches the Los Angeles Angels AZ Scout team in the Summer and Fall.

Ronald Payne - Chicago Cubs

Coach Payne was a tenth round draft pick by the Chicago Cubs. After a successful professional career he is now very active in youth and high school baseball. He runs the Arizona Wildfire Club Team and is an assistant baseball coach at Saguaro High School

After finishing my soccer career in college I could not imagine my life without athletics, so Athletic Training was the perfect fit. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training from Grand Canyon University 's Accredited Athletic Training Program. I am nationally certified by the National Athletic Trainer's Board of Certification and have been licensed by the State of Arizona to practice Athletic Training. I am required to be current with all CPR, AED, and First Aid competencies. My job is to recognize, treat, and prevent any injury and illness related to your athlete and their sport.

Abe Woody - Current Professional Player Az Diamondbacks Organization

Abe joins the USA Select Staff during the off season. Abe played at Baylor University and played a vital role in the success of the 2006 Baylor College World Series Run. He was drafted professionally and now plays in the Diamondbacks organization.
